In my recent reading of The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right, I came across the statistic that the average person will have 7 surgeries in their lifetime.
That, of course, made me want to count mine, and lo and behold:
| Date | Age | Type | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 07/13/2023 | 65 | lumbar posterior fusion and lateral lumbar fusion surgery | |
| 10/13/2021 | 64 | total left knee replacement | |
| 02/11/2020 | 62 | dental implant surgery | |
| 03/15/2012 | 54 | left knee torn meniscus arthroscopic surgery re-do | |
| 12/11/2008 | 51 | left knee torn meniscus arthroscopic surgery | |
| 1986 | 29 | vasectomy |
I’m thinking I’m going to exceed the average — eventually.
Interesting. Did they say what the seven common surgeries are? I’ve had three.
No, it didn’t. Thanks for reading and engaging, Anna. You’ve got a nice little buffer yet until the average. 🙂
I’m not 60 yet and I think I’ve exceeded that number, depending on what qualifies as a surgery.
I have returned the book to the library now so can’t check to be definite. I remember it saying that that doesn’t count minor surgery, but I don’t remember it saying what qualified as minor surgery. A quick Google search listed 5 common surgeries that are considered minor, things like having warts removed and laser surgery were a couple.
Hmmm. Only 1, I think. Emergency appendectomy. June 2022
To be clear, I do not want to be average!
